Kel's haircut

Before ...

during .... (ponytail went to Locks of Love)

and, after!

Xander opening presents - the chaos! :-)

Chill time with Grandpa Tom ...

The war club Tom's son made him - too cool!

The grandkids .... love 'em!

Kel's ornament

I stitched this for Kel ... now to actually finish it into an ornament! :o)

To continue the scrapbooking I was doing, I decorated tin pails for Tom's grandkids & made an album for his DIL. I'm not sure how long any of these will last in the kids' hands but they were fun to make. ;o)
I also stitched a "Joyeux Noel" pillow for K's French tutor - gave it to her last night without taking a picture of it. :-( Oh well ... I liked it. *lol*

Too fun!

This little thing is for my 'other' daughter. She has a major thing for penguins ... so I couldn't resist this paper!

C has been my DD's best friend since forever. I am so tempted to grab a couple of the photos from when they played dress-up & danced to put on here, but I'll let her add her own. ;o)

A gift

A friend asked me to make one of these for her mom, for Christmas. What fun I had! Her mom is my age, so I went for a 'vintage' look of sorts. I could easily go as broke buying paper stash as I do buying stitching stash! *lol*

These are the front & 'papered' interior sections. Between each of these is a set of pages covered with plain papers, decorated just a bit to not interfer with whatever pictures she wants to put in.

I finally got some of my "vintage" stitching finished ... phew! I stitched these, then tea-dyed the stitched fabric - my first attempt. I'm pleased! The "liberty" one was dyed only once - the other two were soaked twice as they didn't take much dye the first time around. I made the pillows tonight, then stitched everything together.

Tomorrow night's our first-of-the-season CBJ hockey game - cannot wait!!! We're 6 rows off the ice - what great seats!!

Found out today my DD made our school's Renaissance program - gpa over 3.0 & less than 3 missed days (she's missed -0-). I'm VERY proud of her!!

To all who've wished me happy birthday - THANK YOU! :-)

A small wandering away from my usual stitching posts ...

The world has lost a wonderful musician to prostate cancer - Dan Fogelberg. You may not know of him or his music ... if not, please try to hear it. Listen to it, absorb it. His lyrics, his melodies are timeless and always grab your soul. And if there's a man in your life - push him, pull him, drag him to a doctor for an exam ... we've all been touched by cancer, somehow. We've all felt the loss, the fear, the anger. And each person we've lost has been someone dear, someone with a talent, a skill, a heart.

Some may think this post maudlin ... maybe. We've sat this evening, listening to Dan's music, holding our private tribute to him. He was our age - 56 years old. I'm sure that's part of why his death hits so hard ... but it's also that he's another of our contemporaries who's light is now dark. That we won't hear more from him is ... beyond sad.

Love my guy!

Friday was my birthday ... we won't discuss how old I am since I am currently older than my SO (we're 11 days apart *lol*). To celebrate, the 3 of us went to dinner at Japanese Steak House (YUMMMM!!!) and T gave me a new digital camera! YES! I am in heaven!! The HP he gave me a few years ago has been dying and I became increasingly frustrated with it. I am now the proud owner of a Canon & absolutely love it! This picture is not one I took ... it is the camera, wrapped for me. Note the newspaper bow on the top! Gotta love my creative guy!

That morning started with a good laugh ... I'd gotten up to start my day ... and fortunately, was awake enough & had the bathroom lights on because T had written "Happy Birthday - Better Not Older" on the roll of toilet paper! *lol* Never, ever boring in our home!

The weekend's been busy - as with most everyone else, I'm sure. We took X to see Santa yesterday & he did quite well, especially considering it was the first time he was anywhere near a live Santa. We had a heavy snow early in the afternoon, that changed to rain ... good thing as K hosted a Christmas party here last night with about 20 guests. I've had quite enough Guitar Hero & DDR for awhile! *lol* Two of her friends brought theirs to share ... they played Twister ... exchanged gifts ... a good time was had by all.

I got a good amount of stitching done while the kids partied in the basement - and today have caught up booster bookkeeping (I'm such a good girl! *lol*), paid bills, did laundry, fixed dinner, made the photo book (post below) and have been finishing up a stitching project.

And I wonder why I'm tired? *lol*

Tomorrow's dental appointments, maybe pick up some gift cards ... then to putting finishing touches on things I've stitched. Ok, that's what I hope to get done tomorrow after work! ;o) We're actually not in bad shape, purchase-wise, so between T & I, we should be able to have everything in hand by mid-week. Everyone cross their fingers for us please!

Weird winter weather's hit so many areas this week ... one of our friends in NH told us today the snow's waist-deep at his house - shoulder height behind his garage! He's had to have his lot plowed 7 times so far - compared to 2 or 3 past Decembers! I hope you all are safe & warm in your homes!!

Christmas crafting

A friend has asked me to make a few 'albums' for her, for gifts. This one, if she likes it, will be for her niece.

I'm getting stitching done, too, but nothing I can show here yet. ;o)

First snow

Our first "big" snow hit Wednesday - we got 5.5". Yesterday morning, everything was 'iced' and crystalized.

This first picture is looking out from our front porch - need to remember to fill the bird feeders!

The second is a metro park that surrounds us - this pic is across from the entrance to our development. We often see deer grazing in the open field.

cookie exchange

This year, for the exchange, we decided we should "wrap" our cookies as well as our gifts. Last year, we each had to bring 4 dozen cookies, which we piled on my round dining room table - then we walked around & around & around the table, gathering 1 or 2 of each as we went around. Yep, we got dizzy! ;o) So, this year, we're each bringing 8 dozen - and they're to be wrapped, ready to hand out.

So, I decided to play ... These are plain ol' white lunch bags, decorated on one side with scrapbooking paper & stuff. I hope my friends like them!

Gift exchange

A group of us band moms are having a cookie/gift exchange this evening (if the roads don't get too bad *lol*). This tuck pillow I completed last night & a little snowman ornament are my contributions. I've found a "12 Days of Christmas" game for us to play to distribute the gifts - should be fun!

Le baby!

I'm not sure where the past couple of weeks have gone (ok, I do ... gotta love uti's *not*) but here's one of the few pics I got at our Thanksgiving gathering ... my niece & her beautiful baby!

We took him for winter shoes tonight ... his first pair of Vans! :o)

as we wait for the snow

A coworker started me on this ... it's a photo album (in this case, for our niece's coming baby) made from paper cd cases. It's a bit labor/time intensive, but I am pleased with my first attempt. ;o)

I'm going to make my next one as a gift to our DIL - one for the kids' birthdays, a few holidays ... whatever in my paper stash strikes my fancy.

Saturday, November 24, 2007

these are fun!

Yep, finished another! :o)

Friday, November 23, 2007

all finished!

This one's for me ... and another attempt at tassles ... not bad .. ;o)

This one's for an exchange ... played with ribbon & I think I won! *lol*

One other

In 2 weeks, 7 other band moms & I are having our 2nd annual cookie/gift exchange. I made little invitations for everyone - using a gingerbread man cookie "theme". The ones that were mailed also had a little red bow at the neck. He's a fold-out so there are actually 3 little guys, all holding hands. Each tummy had a tag with a detail about our gathering.

Now to get the cookies baked ...!

something different

A coworker showed me one of these she'd made (well, more than one - she made them to sell at a craft show) & I really liked them ... so, here's my first attempt. The pics are my little cutie - my greatnephew - in his costume for Halloween.

I've been collecting papers & all like crazy to make more ... and I certainly will do so!

almost an ornament

Hopefully this weekend I'll finish this into an actual ornament ... hopefully!

This pincushion is a design & finish from June 2007's "The Gift of Stitching" ... I love this finish!

Coming soon

I have 2-1/2 of these little handbags knitted so far - 2 are already felted. None are assembled. *lol* I'm pushing myself to get the 3rd one knitted & felted - then I'll do assembly. It's not hard - knit a row, purl a row - so yeah, it gets a bit boring. ;o) I'm hoping to do the 3 for our 3 oldest nieces ... or, my daughter, T's DIL, my oldest niece. Or, 3 stitching friends. Orororor ... *lol* Have to finish them first!
<--This is not one of mine - it's the photo from Lion's website.

not so hot pictures

but ... you'll get the idea ... now if i could find the other photos i took that mysteriously aren't on my camera ....

and no details yet ... some surprises here ... ;o)

Ok .. the chocolate template was just too much work ... *lol* Thanks, Michele, for trying to help me! Not sure about the colors I've set up here but ... hmm ... yeah, it's Thanksgiving colors! ;o)

My honey's home! YEA!!! Now he's got my cold ... though I think it's far safer to say, he's got the cold he was apparently sharing with me before he left 2 weeks ago! While he was up in the cold weather mountains, his stayed quiet - but once he got back to civilization - well, together, we make beautiful (NOT!) music. Sure hope he feels better fast!

Our temps here have dropped almost 30 degrees from yesterday! It's spitting rain right now, but it'll maybe be snow showers later this evening. Brrrrr! These drastic changes in temps are silly. Oh well ... nothing I can do about it.

Ok, I really like my "chocolate" look here ... but now I can't remember how to "html" links to my favorite blogs! Help, anyone?

Monday, November 12, 2007

And you think I'm sharing them? Well, I was going to but have decided the pics are too blurry, so ... another day. ;o)
My honey's home - well, to his brother's house - so I get to talk with him once again! Yea! Lots of news to share with him - especially K's great audition experience Saturday. Her perc director here didn't follow through as he said he would & K was very worried about how things would go at the college. The dean & the director both reassured her beforehand - then the director complimented her a lot on her "good hands". *lol* He's offered to teach her drumset & guitar once she's there - she's looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to seeing what the scholarship $ is! I don't want her to go away to college but ... if it's what she wants, I'll feel good with this choice. Good people are everywhere, in every contact we've had with them to date. Found out today T's son & his family will be here for Christmas - yea!! And it looks like we're hosting T'giving dinner here for 2 of T's siblings & their families, as well as my niece & her family. Cool!!
Our football team lost in Sat night's playoff game. *sigh* The boys have to be proud - this was the furthest our school's team has ever gone in playoffs - pretty cool! They kept HD's points low - quite an accomplishment.
So, marching band is done. Hallelujah! We've got indoor drumline starting next week but it won't be quite as insane as marching. (I hope! *lol*) Now it's a period of money going out ... senior pictures, cap & gown, invitations, college deposits ... OUCH!
Tomorrow night's an indoor performance by Ohio University's marching band. K & I are attending with friends - promises to be a fun evening! I'll get pics here someday soon!

Took me long enough ... here, finally, is a photo of my framed "Thankfulness". The batteries in the camera are about shot so it's not the best photo, but, it works! :o)

Kel got her 2nd college acceptance today ... of course, it's the most expensive school we've visited yet! *lol* She's excited, though - the acceptances feel good!

Fall in New England

Yep, it's that time of year again ... my guy's off to New England to play with his family & friends. ;o) Personally, I think they're all a bit crazy - no, I KNOW they are - but ... they have fun! There's not been much snow in the White Mtns yet but it's coming! They're even saying WE have a possibility of the white wet stuff next week! NOOOOO!!!! Ok, it'll help me get in the "OMG, what haven't I made for Christmas yet???" mood but ... I am not looking forward to slipping & sliding on the roads. Oh well .... whatcha gonna do? *lol*

All Saints' Day

Well, as I didn't have a chance to get on here & wish everyone a Happy Halloween, instead, I'll wish you happy memories of your loved ones, on this, All Saints' Day. Today's the day I miss my dad the most ... He was confirmed in our church the same time I was, which was a pretty cool experience!

Kel & I carved our pumpkins again this year .. another thing my dad really enjoyed doing - and, so do Kel & I. The first is her own creation - her school's initals along with music notes. Pretty darn apropos! The 2 together are Jack & Sally from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" ... lol They all looked pretty darn good last night with candles lit inside them.

Our band has done a tremendous job this year - and the awards they earned at their contest on Oct 13 showed them! They got 7 awards - including best percussion (that's my DD back left holding the award) - best band, best visual, best field commander ... it was an awesome night!
Tonight's our Senior Night - the last regularly-scheduled football game performance by our senior. My DD is a senior - so we'll take the field with her at halftime. Truly, a bittersweet moment. This year has had way too much drama among the adults - with special "thanks" (NOT!) to a band parent who's also a school board member. I won't miss any of that nonsense - not even for a nannosecond. I most assuredly will miss seeing these wonderful kids every week! Nov 2 is our performance at State Contest - please keep these kids in your thoughts & prayers. May their performance be as wonderful as it was Oct 13!
We've been doing the college visit routine ... so my stitching has suffered greatly. ;o) I do have one ornament from this year's JCS issue almost done, so maybe I'll actually have a stitching picture to share here later this weekend! *lol* I did get "Thankfulness" framed - did it myself with one of Lori's great frames - so I'll get a picture of it as well.
